In the middle of the holidays...

and I have to admit I'm having a better time than usual.  Maybe it's the new house or the kid on the way but I'm  not as...eh...as usual.  I also forgot to update this thing for about 2 weeks so might as well give it a go.

Best gift:

Only on first chapter but the detail and approach is very smooth to read and I expect to find it very enjoyable by the end.

So football season is damn near finished and I find myself depressed yet again by letting it slip through my fingers.  Every year I promise to watch as much as possible but on every level I can't do it.  Watching some suckass mountain west game, local HS teams, or even a game like Seattle-Tampa is mind numbing to me.  I just have to accept I am a sports snob.

Speaking of sports, why would you fire your coach with 1 game left?  Its not like you save money by cutting him out early.  But no, let's throw in the assistant coach who is ill prepared to be a HC into the fire for a job that 99% chance he won't keep.  Makes a lot of sense doesn't it 49ers?

For those not keeping track every since this douchebag and his mama and daddy showed up to "run" the team we've been embarrassingly terrible.  Hey kid, get your head out of ass if you can manage it without damaging the silver spoon in your mouth and give Uncle Eddie a call and LEARN HOW YOU RUN A FUCKING FRANCHISE!

Update on the Snow

We didn't get shit.  It's not even worth uploading the pics.  It's cold as fuck outside.  That is all.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow..pt1

So we're in store for a storm, basically the same thing that's collapsed the Metrodome roof and cause havoc across the Midwest.  It rained all morning and then around 1:45 I started to notice flurries outside.  Luckily I snapped some pics of the backyard to document it because being Mr. Opportunist I decided this would be a good topic for blogging.  I'll post some of those before and after..and after pics later.  As luck would have it I was already scheduled off work tomorrow and I'm hoping the wife's school closes so I don't have to drive her to work in the midst of this shit.

This has been a pretty good football weekend.  Heisman last night-no shocker, a local crybaby team got DEMOLISHED in their WV state title game.  Right now Pittsburgh is up on Cincy 20-7 but I'm beginning to wonder exactly how long the NFL is going to order the Refs to fuck us at every chance.  Good play on offense? Holdng.  Ben gets nailed 4 seconds after throwing the ball?  No flag.  I mean if you're going to do this, have the balls to go on Sportscenter and say 'yea, we're going to do out best to make sure they lose.'  It's not our fault that everyone James Harrison hits is a pussy.

Things we apparently need reminded of..

There's a new windows phone, among a droid...and an evo....
The most overrated band in history is now on itunes

Well as the snow continues I'll keep documenting this.  They're saying 6 inches I guess.  Something tells me that we're going to get more but it'll all be gone by christmas.

It's been a good weekend

Well I survived the great baby shower of 2010 and truth be told it wasn't as bad as I feared.  We had a great turnout and got a ton of stuff for Morgan.  We have a wonderful support base from friends and family.  So enough with the touchy feely shit, let's get to the show.  :-D

Item #1 --Football

A)  Pitt vs Bal, NYJ vs Pats...does the football or the hatred get any better?

B)  Thank baby Jesus that we get Auburn vs Oregon.  If the undeserving TCU got in I'd have lost my mind.  Let them play someone like Wisconsin and be done with it.  Also, ND vs Miami.  I don't care if its a lower midcard bowl, there is something special about that match up.

C) High School football championships were this weekend and there were some very good games and some ass whippings.  5 out of 6 were public vs private schools and I believe the Privates swept 5-0.  So now we get another 8 months of pissing and moaning about how there needs to be separate playoffs or how the evil private schools recruit.  Of course a public school with open enrollment is completely above board and never do anything wrong.....

Item #2   Movie Review:  Passengers.

Let me give you the short short version without ruining this.  Anne Hathaway is pretty good looking.  The cast wasn't bad.  The movie sort of drug on and the ending was not completely a surprise but done pretty well.  I won't tell you to move it to the top of your netflix list but if you're looking for a not-horrific 2 hours to spend I'd put it in the top 15-20.  *** out of *****

Item #3  Tax Cuts

The dems want to keep Bush's cuts for middle-lower class.  Reps want them for everyone since ya know..those horrible rich people pay most of the income taxes in this country and create a nice slice of the jobs which we need since Barack's still an inch below 10% unemployment.  So they play games and the incoming Speaker called it chicken shit.  Next year's Congress might be interesting to see how long they can play nice.  My opinion is renew them for everyone.  Tax breaks aren't the problem in Washington, the problem is these career politicians spending OUR money like it's THEIR money.  Stop spending like a virgin in a whorehouse and maybe we can cut the debt.

Item #4  Wikileaks

So now the asshole who runs this thing says if he's arrested he'll release a giant secret dossier of embarrassing documents.

He's like a bad Bond villain...and not the 'Roger Moore is getting old' villain...the kind they'd match up with Timothy Dalton.  I have a crazy idea.  First, we kill this mother fucker.  Second, we send them a document which when they read it, or anyone else downloads it, it ruins their hard drive and alerts us to where they are so we can arrest and have a talkin' to with them.

Item #5   The end of my 2 favorite Series..for now.

Walking Dead and Boardwalk Empire both have season finales tonight.  Both of these shows are great and I can't wait to see what happens next.  Waiting till next Oct for WD will suck but as long as they don't screw anything up in the meantime it'll be worth the wait.

Public Enemy #1

This guy is the one who runs wikileaks, who makes it their business to leak classified and secret gov't documents to expose them.  Now a lot of people think that it's a good thing, even though the documents ruin our relations with allies, worsen relations with enemies, and put the lives of our secret helpers around the work at risk by naming them.  All of these things don't anger me more than one other fact.

This metrosexual little fuck is still alive somehow.

How pussified is our nation that this guy shits on our national security and we just shrug and go...well...we're looking into how to prosecute him?  Um...I have an idea.

Remember this moment?

We didn't mind sending in snatch and grab guys to handle a kid who floated in on a raft.

How about this one?

Maybe I'm just a sucker for nostalgia but I remember living in an America where if you fucked with us, you got a visit from guys like ^^^ at 3 AM right after they chucked some flashbangs into your condo in Ecuador and 10 mins later you were on a chopper headed back to the US to have a little talkie talkie.  Can you imagine if someone like this guy was around today?

Hey Obama, man up and send in the professionals instead of dicking around playing 5 on 5.  I also find it funny how Homeland Security led by this woman....

sorry...

will crack down on a hundred websites which are letting people download music, but when it comes to a site which has THOUSANDS of secret government documents...eh, we can't do anything.

Absolutely Pathetic

It's turkey day!!!

So much to cover, no time to waste...

1)  North Korea breaks cease fire and attacks South Korea, and nobody wants to teach them what breaking a cease fire means, and the UN is giving them more money.  That'll show'em!

2)  Wow did the Democrats get crushed on election day.  I didn't realize it was THAT bad until I looked at some state and federal races.  Next 2 years ought to be very interesting.

3)  Palin's daughter came in 3rd on dancing with the stars, buoyed by her mom's supporters.  In related news, nobody outside of gay men, middle aged housewives, and fox news gives a shit.

4)  Richard Seymour punched Big Ben and got docked 25k with no suspension.  I agree with Mark Madden.  When we run into Sanchez, or Brady, or Flacco in the playoffs, send in a scrub and knock him the fuck out, and eat the 25k fine since it's a "fight" to the NFL which is not suspendable.

5)   Quickie movie review:  Iron Man 2 was pretty damned good.  Nice movement for character development and good action scenes.  3rd movie ought to be great if it stays with the same cast/director.  Predators (high hopes) arriving today.

6)  I got my locals on directv....that's a yay.   Having to use the shitty "HD" versions of ABC, FOX, and CBS thanks to WTRF's, or whoever owns them, piss poor production values...that's a fuck you.  If you want to be a big boy media outlet and claim to have HD then try and look better than Ohio U's make believe newscast for their students.  Channel 9 better thank their lucky fucking stars they have ZERO competition in this area.

7)  Karl Rove's book as the appetizer for W's is a good read.  His chapter on how to run a campaign makes me keep thinking of someday being actively involved in political matters.  That'd be enjoyable.

8)  TSA is now strip searching 10 year olds and feeling up 80 year old nuns.  Why?  Because our government is run by pussies who don't want to anger the "good" muslims by making them all go through special methods because its people who look like them who want to blow up their underwear.  No, we have to be FAIR.  You know what'll be fair?  When Malia and Sasha get strip searched* and Michelle has someone with their hand in her panties** every time they go on Air Force 1.  If he's willing to put his family through it, then everyone else needs to shut the fuck up.  If he's not willing, then he needs to order the TSA to start looking at the fucking people who want us dead instead of wasting time and resources.

*  Boy strip searched at airport
**TSA gets...familiar...with ABC news employee

^^I'm not just making up crude scenarios, this shit is actually happening

9)  Third political note....THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU House Democrats for making Skeletor your leader again.  Her face on TV raises our chances of winning a clean sweep in 2012 better by 2% every time.

10)  Just because I think it'd be stupid to leave this thing at 9.  I have a lot to be thankful for tomorrow but it starts with the wife who's for some reason stuck with me for 15 years.  Everything good I have in my life is because of her.  Love you honey.

It's the end of the world as we know it

The great house move of 2010 is over.  Loads of friends and family helped us get 100% done in about 48 hours.    The wife is tired and I'm just beat but I think the third wheel was hit hardest....

This week won't get any easier with our official election results beginning tomorrow but now I can finally concentrate on the baby's arrival as we slowly get this place ship shape.  Seems very weird to be a homeowner but I think we're gonna love this place.

I'm beat and I haven't really rubbed in the Democrat's crushing defeat yet which surprises even me.  I'll have to think of something good for a few days from now :D

Those Were the Days

Boy the way our memories fade,
$3.00 gas we never paid,
Americans like us we had it made,
those were the days!

Times like that you'd never sell,
Before the murderers struck and the towers fell,
mister we could use a man like Ronald Reagan in this hell!

Didn't need no Obamacare,
Socialism?  Congress wouldn't dare,
Minority leadership offices the Democrats will now share,
those were the days!

ELECTION DAY

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

It's really been a month?

I have an excuse....that being I forgot about this while work turned into hell and the personal life is going about 200 mph.  I think the biggest development of the month is that we know we're having a girl now which means I have an assured 20-25 years of uber-stress ahead of me.  I have to admit though, it's a good feeling when one of my concerns is what my nickname will be for my daughter.  Looking forward to meeting Morgan.

My other thought for the day is I am a little tired of the NFL trying to pussify the best sport in the world.  They're football players.  If someone gets knocked the fuck out they'll get better or they'll get replaced.  Slowing down on a hit is only going to get defensive players hurt, or cause them to go for the knees and end more careers.

1 week till the election.  That means less stress and smooth sailing till May.  I'll drink to that.  (and by the end of Tuesday night I'll probably need one anyways!)

So it dawns on me that I have a blog!

Yea I kinda forgot about this as football season has begun and work gets busy and the house is coming and the baby after that.....there's a lot I could drone on and on about and honestly I'm having a hard time deciding what to say.  I feel like I ought to post something here just so we don't go further into inactivity.

Maybe some old fashioned horribly bad jokes?

A guy went on vacation to the islands. When he got off the boat, he heard the drummers playing an island rhythm. He found it fascinating. However, after several hours, the sound became an annoyance, so at dinner, he asked the waiter, "When do the drums stop?" The waiter went pale and stammered, "No. No. Drums not stop. Very bad when drums stop." After tossing and turning through the night, he called the front desk at 2 a.m. to ask when the drums would stop. "No. No. Drums not stop. Very bad when drums stop." After a sleepless night, he was waiting at the front desk for the manager. He asked once again, "When do the drums stop?" Again came the reply, "No. No. Drums not stop. Very bad when drums stop." Grabbing the manager by his shirt, the man screams, "What happens that's so bloody bad when the drums stop?" "Trombone solo."

Q. Why was the 86 year old man acquitted of rape?
A. The evidence wouldn't stand up in court

"Did you ever see the customers in health-food stores? They are pale skinny people who look half- dead. In a steak house you see robust, ruddy people. They're dying, of course, but they look terrific." -- Bill Cosby

At a bar, a drunk says to a girl, "Excuse me but I think you owe me a drink."
"Why?"
"You're so fucking ugly that I dropped mine when I saw you."

Although born to a Catholic family, Chester had always wanted to be Jewish. As a senior in college, he decided to take the plunge and go through the formal conversion process. He studied Judaism all semester. Finally, he felt he was ready to take the test and complete the conversion. On the appointed day, he arrived at the Rabbi's office, ready to begin. The Rabbi said, "I'm sorry, but before I give you the test, I must discuss my fee. It's $5,000." "$5,000!" exclaimed Chester, "That's a lot of money. How about $500?" "Congratulations," said the Rabbi, "you pass!"

A group of bats is hanging around, upside down, as usual, mostly sleeping. Suddenly one notices that Charlie is on the floor, standing upright and looking around. "Hey, Charlie," he calls out. "What are you doing down there?" Charlie looks up and says, "Yoga!"

A pirate walks into a bar wearing a paper towel on his head. He sits down at the bar and orders some rum. The bartender asks, "Why are you wearing a paper towel?" "Arrr..." says the pirate. "I've got a bounty on me."

Two caterpillars are sitting on a leaf when a butterfly zooms by, startling them. One turns to the other and says, "Boy, you'll never get ME up in one of those things."

A guy thought his wife was cheating on him. He waited for her to leave that night and jumped in a cab to follow her. By following her, he found out she was working in a whore house. The guy says to the cabbie, "Wanna make a $100?" The cabbie says, "Sure, what do I have to do?" The guy replies that all the cabbie has to do is go inside the whore house, grab his wife, put her in the back of the cab, and take them home. The cabbie goes in. A couple of minutes later, the whore house door gets kicked open, and the cabbie starts dragging out this woman who is kicking, biting, punching, and fighting all the way to the cab. The cabbie opens the door to the cab, throws the girl inside, and tells the man, "Here! Hold her!" The man looks down at the girl and yells to the cabbie, "THIS AIN'T MY WIFE!" The cabbie replied, "I KNOW. IT'S MINE. I'M GOING BACK IN FOR YOURS!"

Q. What lies at the bottom of the ocean and twitches?
A. A nervous wreck.

A frantic guy runs out of a Las Vegas hotel and says to a stranger, "Buddy, please, can you loan me a hundred bucks? My wife had a terrible accident and I need to get her to the hospital." The stranger says, "If you so desperately need a hundred dollars, what are you doing in a casino"? The guy replies, "Oh, I've got gambling money."

Q. What time does a duck wake up?
A. At the quack of dawn!

There is an old story about a mother who walks in on her six-year-old son and finds him sobbing. "What's the matter?"
she asks. "I've just figured out how to tie my shoes." "Well, honey, that's wonderful." Being a wise mother, she recognizes his victory in the struggle of autonomy versus doubt. "You're growing up, but why are you crying?" "Because," he says, "now I'll have to do it every day for the rest of my life."

Q. Why do Sumo wrestlers shave their legs?
A. So they won't be mistaken for feminists.

The stern teacher silently panned his gaze across all the kids. After about a minute or so, he spoke. "From the outset, I want you all to know that there are two words that are absolutely unacceptable in this classroom. You cannot use them as you recite, or in any of your papers, tests, or homework. Using these words even once, will get you a failing grade for that quarter. The first one is 'gross.' And the other one is 'cool.' Are there any questions?" After a few moments of silence, this gawky teen at the back of the room raises his hand, and the teacher calls upon him. In a pubescent croaking voice, the kid asks... "So, what are they?"

A 60-year-old woman who just gave birth to twins, says, "Age has been redefined." Her doctor said, "That's easy for you to say. You didn't have to see what I was looking at."

...see what happens when I feel the need to post on this thing???

Happy Labor Day

So much to cover and bitch about and share wisdom on...away we go.

NFL Division Prediction Wrap Ups

NFC West

San Francisco 49ers (9-7)
-This is a point of personal pride for me having been a long time 9er fan until Eddie sold to his sister.  They benefit from a horribly weak division.

Seattle Seahawks (8-8)
Pete Caroll will make it close, even splitting with the 49ers but somewhere somehow they're going to run into some mistakes and injuries and they won't be able to make it up.

Arizona Cardnals (6-10)
Remember a few years back when they were a play away from being super bowl champs?  Yea, Kurt Warner isn't walking through that door..or is he?  If he follows the Favre model I think they have a shot at the division.  But now they have a Cleveland send-off.  The only reason they're not last is because the Rams suck more dick than Paris Hilton

St. Louis Rams (3-13)
This used to be a proud franchise.  Zsa Zsa Gabor used to be hot too.  Times change.  The Rams starting a rookie QB with next to nothing on offense for weapons are in for a loooong year.  But how'd you like to be former Buckeye Bobby Carpenter?  They cut him.  That's like a leper colony requesting you not move in.

NFC East

Dallas Cowboys (11-5)
I know I know, they're a trainwreck most of the times but they have enough talent to win this division.  Make or break year for Romo.

New York Giants (10-6)
My surprise team in the NFC is the G-Men.  I think they have the experience to take care of a substandard Redskins team and a young and inexperienced Philly team.

Philadelphia Eagles (8-8)
Young Kevin Kolb will go .500 this year but next year watch out.  Eagles are the team of the future in this division.

Washington Redskins (5-11)
McNabb is older, with less weapons, and a playbook he's struggling with.  The Dan Snyder curse continues.

NFC South

New Orleans Saints (14-2)
Honestly I don't see anyone in this division capable of sniffing this division title in the next 2-3 years.  Too much O, too much D, too much voodoo.

Atlanta Falcons (9-7)
A solid year for Matt Ryan will push them to another step forward but they don't have enough to get over the hump yet.

Carolina Panthers (6-10)
Like several teams they're in 3rd place because the team below is horrific.  I like their future potential (Bill Cowher anyone?) but right now they're not there yet.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers. (2-14)
Not even worth talking about.  No talent, no prospects, no hope.  The only thing they're fighting for is the #1 pick.

So we have:

AFC:  Ravens, Jets, Chargers, Colts, Patriots, Steelers
NFC:  Saints, Packers, Cowboys, 49ers, Giants, Vikings (nipping the Falcons in some weird tiebreaker)
 *Bold is 1st round byes

AFC Championship:    Colts @ Ravens
NFC Championship:    Packers @ Saints

Superbowl:     Ravens- 21    Saints- 27

Movie Review:

Clash of the Titans

As a fan of the old movie I was hesitant about this one but honestly it was nice remake which paid some homage to the original (loved the mechanical owl), some great special effects and some do-able acting.  If you've got 2 hours to kill, you could do worse than watching this.  *** 3/4 out of *****

Now the #1 cause of optimism in sports..........

Notre Dame made a triumphant return to college football with a solid win vs Purdue.  What I saw most was:

1   We didn't look gassed in the 4th
2   Our offense is going to only get better
3   Armando Allen + Cierre Wood = Jesus Christ they're fast!
4   The defense was flying around
5   It looked like we actually had a COACH again.

BRING ON MICHIGAN!!!!

Busy Busy Week

So tonight we go looking for a house, the wife starts her next to last grad class, I start football coaching on Tues, have a booster meeting that night, coach on wed, High school football kickoff doubleheader on Thurs, then Fri or Sat get a haircut which should have been on Tuesday.   And we're expecting a baby in Feb so this is not going to slow down.

But never fear my loyal reader (cause God knows I only have one of you), everything you've come to expect is still right here.

1)    Movie Reviews

We caught 2 flicks Saturday Night.

This was enjoyable on several levels.  The plot was much deeper than you'd expect, a lot of good actors, a lot of violence, I very much enjoyed this, enough to order the sure-to-be-shitty sequel/prequel on netflix.  This one is a good one though so I'd give it **** out of *****.  Might not be a buy but it's a re-watch for sure.

I wasn't sure if I'd like this one but I have to say that it was a pretty good comedy.  Meryl Streep always surprises me when shes funny because I have this image of her as just a bitch.  Steve Martin plays more of a straight man than anything but he still comes off as enjoyable.  For me though, Baldwin is the star because his character and the way he plays him especially with attitude and body language was hilarious.  He may be a prick but when given the chance he's really funny.  I'd say we're looking at.... *** 1/2 out of *****.  Wouldn't buy it, and wouldn't search it out on HBO but if its on and I have nothing else to do, it'll suffice for 2 hours.

2)  NFL PREDICTIONS

NFC NORTH

I expect the division to literally go down to the last 2 weeks with the end of the Favre era not being storybook.

Green Bay Packers (11-5)
Aaron Rodgers has stepped out of the Favre shadow and with the talent around him now I think this is the year they put themselves into annual contention.  I look for big things from their Defense as well.

Minnesota Vikings (9-7)
Favre came back for a ring and his ego but they won't match what they did last time in being a juggernaut.  He'll have a nice year and probably throw for something like...24 TDs and 16 INTs and I think Peterson gets them 1200 yards but something just doesn't jive with them this time and a season sweep by the Packers will doom their playoff chances.

Detroit Lions (7-9)
Yes, Detroit will not be in the cellar this year.  They have a lot of talent, and a good young QB who has weapons.  Their defense is on the rise and they benefit from the team below them sinking quickly.  When Favre is gone, look for them to contend for 2nd in the division.

Chicago Bears (5-11)
Simply put I don't trust this team to tie its own shows.  They got Peppers on Defense now which will help but this marriage of Martz and Cutler is bad news.  Besides lets not forget their running game went to shit last year as well.  Could they turn it into the greatest show not on turf and light it up?  Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on them being anything but picking maybe 7th in the 1st round next draft.

Now is the time of year I love.  Fall means football and cooler weather but also moving (most likely), baby prepping (definitely) and an election (God help me).

c'est la vie

Time is flying by

In 2 I'll be a home owner
In 3 months I'll be going crazy with another elections
In 6-7 I'll be a father

Best not to dwell too far on the stresses that accompany any of those and focus on the good.

Speaking of good....it's time for 5 good things.  I'm gonna try and be positive today.

1   Madden 11 is pretty fucking great thus far
2  It seems like things everywhere in my life are finally clicking into place
3  We have an excellent shot of taking Congress back...long as we don't fuck it up
4   I am not only excited for ND Football season I am optimistic about it.  Can't wait!
5   I have a pretty good life and I shouldn't take it for granted as much as I do.

Movie review...

I enjoyed this one.  It was smartass and violent and wasn't too sappy and ended with a great traditional comic book ending.  I will probably buy this if I can find it cheap, or I'll end up DVRing it off HBO.  In any case it's delivers what it promises.  **** out of *****

This weekend is going to be insane.  Tonight is meet the coaches for CCHS.  Tomorrow is the scrimmage at Buckeye Local.  Saturday is the Blue/Gold Bash down at the Spot.  Sunday is an all day affair with our crew at the lake.  Then Monday is the beginning of hell week #1 as we send out absentee applications.  I hope this weekend lasts as long as possible!

Playing Catchup

I've been slacking off alot with this blog so its time to get back in gear with another quick-quick thing I'm gonna call the top 5.

1 Hot Tub Time Machine-alot of fun.  **** out of *****, very good cast chemistry.  Would watch again on HBO.

2  Kagan approved for USSC-She's a lib replacing a lib.  She isn't replacing Scalia.  People need to chill.

3  NBA-Heat vs Celtics to open, vs lakers on christmas, and @ Cleveland in December.  I may get back into basketball after all.

4   Judge allows gay marriage-As I get older my fired up view of this diminishes.  If they want to get married I'm not sure it's a big deal as long as you protect religious buildings and such from being sued if they say no.  I don't feel two chicks being married affects my marital status at all.

5  Steelers-Ben may be back sooner because he's proving himself to Goodell.  Keep underestimating Pittsburgh, we like it that way.  Side note:  It's about fucking time Dick Lebeau got into the HOF.

Speaking of Steelers, let's see the AFC North

1  Baltimore-They have to falter big time before I don't pick them to finish 1st. (12-4)

2  Pittsburgh-Troy is back, Ben will be back, some good FA's signed on defense.  Question will be on Mendenhall and Wallace.  If they keep growing up, this could be a fun season.  (10-6)

3   Cincinnati-Add TO AND Pacman to the mix and you either have alot of talent to jesus christ call Dr Phil.  You're gonna see something happen and they'll still be good but I think they miss the WC.  (9-7)

4   Cleveland-A dumpster fire.  When a guy who threw 2000 INTs last year is your FA pickup and Colt McCoy won't sniff the field, it's gonna be a long season.  Room for improvement, but then again there's no place to go but up.  There's a reason they're always picking in the top 8.

Hope to get another update by the end of the weekend.  Until then hang tight people.

Monday, July 19, 2010

Its been awhile and a TON has happened so let's get to it

I have neglected this for about a week and a half so there's many topics to hit on and we're going to do this lightening round fashion.

AFC SOUTH PREDICTIONS

Colts (11-5)--Until they jump the shark and Manning is still Manning they're the tops of the division but they need to get younger within the next 2-3 years or else.

Texans (9-7)  They'll make the wild card this year I think but they're not overtaking the Colts unless they have severe injuries to key guys (ie, Manning).  A young team, when Peyton's gone this may be their division.

Titans (9-7)  If Vince Young can keep his head on straight and Chris Johnson keeps getting better they could give the Texans a run for their money for heir apparent or maybe even the wildcard but most of this depends on their defense.

Jaguars (4-12)  I don't have much hope for his team and I think within 5 years they'll be in LA but they have a chance to prove me wrong if Jones-Drew has a superb year, enough to carry them on his shoulders.  I don't think he can do it, and if he's hurt in the process, this could quickly get to be a 2-14 year.  Del Rio's been a good coach for them over the years but he'll be moving on to greener pastures..maybe Carolina if Fox leaves and Cowher says no.

MOVIE REVIEWS

2012----Great special effects, a decently believable disaster premise, not so bad acting, and did I mention the special effects? A little cliche at the end but its worth 2 hours and if I can find a blu ray version on the cheap end, it'll end up in the collection.  **** out of *****

Untraceable---Very good crime/suspense/thriller.  Reminded me of a cross between Seven and Saw.  Good casting and plot.  I doubt I'll buy it, but I'd watch it again.  **** out of *****

BP CAPS OIL WELL, OBAMA CELEBRATES AGAIN...AND AGAIN

So we finally have a cap on the well and life will go back to normal and the media and the administration will go back to their vacations, and dinners, and events.  I hope the people along the gulf remember come November 2010 and 2012 that they were a part of the largest presidential "I'm mad and this is my angry face" photo op" in history.

CELEBRITIES IN TROUBLE

Mel Gibson is in trouble for yelling at..or beating up...or something his girlfriend and baby mama.  New reports are he'll be moving to Austrailia to get back with his wife and 7 kids.  He's getting too old for this shit.  Oh wait, that was Danny Glover's line.

Lindsay Lohan is going to the Y...if you know what I mean.  The coked up scarlet will spend 90 days (before she's released 88 days early) in County jail for probation violations where I'm sure she'll be the walking fantasy of every crew cut butch in flannel prison jumpsuits.  My worry?  That if they do get their hands, etc on her, her recidivism rate will go through the roof.

And finally

LEBRON CHOOSES MIAMI

Actually I'm in a Dr. Strangelove mood so we'll change that title.

LEBRON CHOOSES MIAMI

or

HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB   FUCK YOU CLEVELAND!!

I prefer the second title.  Yes, Lebron James, the chosen on, the home town boy, the apple of Ohio's eye took a look around, saw he wasn't under contract and didn't have to play in that shit hole called Cleveland and bolted like Katie Holmes if the power went out at Tom Cruise's mansion and the explosive collar which keeps her inside deactivated long enough for her to slip out of it and run for freedom.  Okay maybe that's a little over the top but the facts are there are now a new Big-3, and unlike Boston's trio, they're not collecting Medicare.  Add Amare to the Knicks and Boozer to the Bulls and what do you have?  The Lakers in the finals every single year.  This could bring me back to the NBA.

The not so wild wild AFC West

In my NFL Division predictions second edition I'm going to look at the AFC West which very well may be the most boring division in the NFL.

San Diego Superchargers....San Diego...Chargers!  Still the class of the division with the best QB and best skill position people.  San Diego will cruise again and then crash and burn in the playoffs..again.   (9-7)

Denver traded away everybody who was a pain in the ass to their new coach.  The bad news is they were your stud QB and stud WR.  Who's here to save the day?  Why its Messiah in training Tim Tebow!  Knowshon Moreon knows how to run the ball and I expect another 1000 yard denver backfield.  Not good enough to overcome the Chargers though.  (8-8)

This is the shocker.  The once proud Raiders, unbelievably, might be on the right track.  Their schedule isn't the easiest but they might be able to surprise some people and get back from being horrible to being..eh.  And in the last 10 years, 'eh' is a step up.  (7-9)

Where do I begin.....the Chiefs suck. I think that sums it up.  (4-12, assuming they split with the Raiders. If not, I think they better thank God they have Cleveland, Buffalo, and St Louis on their schedule).  Enjoy that #1 pick next year!

Good movies on the way with the Wolfman remake and the Crazies and this weekend marks my 32nd birthday.  Ugh.  Good things on the horizon though  ;)

Enough politics, lets talk some N...fucking....L.

I neglected to mention in the past few posts how I absolutely nailed the final margin for the Lakers victory.  So on the heels of my new sports psychic ability we're going to review the NFL divisions one at a time, followed then by playoff predictions.

Top team is predicted Division winner, bottom team sucks ass in most cases.

AFC East

The Jets are the sexy pick this year but you know who else is a sexy pick?  Marisa Miller and nobody ever says, forget Marisa Miller, I don't think she's good looking because a bunch of other people say so.  She is good looking and the Jets are a very very good team who added more weapons this year on both sides of the ball.  AFC Championship or major choke job this year.   (12-4)

The Patriots were the shit 10 years ago, even 5 years ago, even 3 years ago.  Unfortunately Bill Billichick hasn't been washing his hoodie in the hot tub time machine.  Time waits for no man, even Tom Brady.  The Pats, if Wes Welker is healthy are still dangerous, but they're not scary anymore.  However, should the Jets choke on applesauce New England is ready to reclaim the division for this season.   (10-6)

Miami is sitting in 3rd place here for one reason.  Buffalo is fucking horrible.  They're young and maybe they could surprise some people, especially adding a talent like Brandon Marshall but I'm not buying them.  Next year they may supplant New England as #2 but not this year.  Henne needs more time and more weapons.   (8-8)

Buffalo is dreg of the NFL.  An owner more interested in the early bird special than building a good team they have holes everywhere, and their solution is CJ Spiller.  He'll be good, and he'll be flashy but he won't make a difference with the bottom line.  Buffalo is the worst team in the NFL and Jim Kelly isn't walking through the door anytime soon.  (3-13*)

*They play Jacksonville, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and Kansas City, all of them horrible teams.  They'll be lucky to win the 3/5 of them.

Quick movies reviews.

4th Kind---freaky alien abduction movie supposedly based on real life situation, with supposed real life footage.  The footage makes the movie which is an enjoyable flick with a good cast and a lot of questions once the credits hit.  PS.  Watch the credits at the end.     **** 1/2 out of *****

Funny People---Adam Sandler, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan, what couldn't be funny.  It is funny, it has alot of moments, but it also has about 90 mins out of a 2 and a 1/2 hour movie about leukemia and trying to work in a love story  The only reaction I could have is this.   ** out of *****.  I will avoid this on HBO.

Next time it's the NFC East!

Crazy Joe at it again

Biden Claims a GOP 'Blitzkrieg' (Updated) »

Vice President Biden is out with an alarmed e-mail cash appeal warning that the GOP will mount a “blitzkrieg” against Democrats in the fall.

Comparing GOP tactics to the fast-striking forces of Nazi Germany, Biden warns in a message sent by the DCCC today: “As things heat up, you can expect House Democrats will be hit with a GOP blitzkrieg of vicious Swift-Boat-style attack ads, Karl Rove-inspired knockout tactics, thinly veiled attempts at character assassination and tea party disruptions.”

And while the GOP is mounting a blitzkrieg, Democrats are the allies.

“Our Democratic allies in the House need your help, and the President and I hope we can count on you to come to their defense so we can hold onto our Democratic Majority and continue moving American forward in a new direction,” Biden writes in the appeal.

Subtle? Not so much.

Update: Republicans were not amused by the implications of the e-mail.

Kevin Smith, spokesman for Minority Leader John Boehner, e-mailed a comment that seems sure to get under Democrats’ skins: “When will Democrats learn that invoking the Nazis’ crimes against humanity in a political debate is simply inappropriate?”http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=7543560592656560734

Now let's try and forget this is the asshole who told a man in a wheelchair to stand and wave to the crowd.  Let's also forget this is the guy who asked for a blessing for the late mother of the Irish Prime Minister---she's alive.  But now he's trotting out the old Republicans = Nazis?

Luckily as someone who spent way too much money on a history degree I'll never use I can say one thing catagorically:

Republican "Nazis" aren't the ones who support doing this....

In other news the new Supreme Court nominee who looks like, as a good friend put it, Jon Lovitz in a dress, sat through such grilling questions as are you with team vampire or team werewolf.  I'm not kidding..on either end.

So we all know she's getting approved, the dems will vote together and some traitor like Collins or Snowe will vote with them, but in the long run this doesn't really matter.  She's replacing the biggest lib on the court so it doesn't tilt the balance.

Yea....that's the ticket.

Politics, Politics, Politics

So I was looking for a way to get a little more political on this blog and I think I found 3 openings.

Exhibit A

No, Joe, he's not a smartass, he just doesn't want to pay sky high taxes to subsidize your party's 90+ year old love affair with socialism and spreading the wealth.

Exhibit B

This mean looking son of a bitch wants to kill terrorists.  He wants his guys to be able to return fire without a note from teacher.  He wants "diplomats" who don't sabotage our war effort.  His mistake:  Being honest.  His punishment:  Not having to take orders anymore from a guy named Hussein...or is that a reward?

 Exhibit C

This guy is dead.

They want you, when you think of him, not to think of this:

They want you, when you think of him, to think of this:

On November 20th this year he'd have been 93 so I honestly think as his last effort to help America he decided to pass on today and not after the next birthday....afterall....do you have any idea how much 93 three of these on his cake would cost the national debt?

That felt good

A Big Big Week

First and foremost 6/19 made a half dozen years of marriage for the wife and me.  I don't know where I'd be without her but I think the next year is going to be the most exciting and busy time of my life.  I need to get better time management and patience skills all over the board but for the first time in a long time I'm quietly and cautiously optimistic about the future.

Second was the arrival of Brooklyn.

The daughter of my best friend brother from another mother, and a long time in coming.  I couldn't be happier for Nick and Darci.  They're truly a great couple and I know they're going to be fantastic parents.  Looks like we'll need a new headquarters for shenanigans after 9:30 pm  :D

Third is I'm on my next to last to last to last to last to last day of 2 weeks of vacation.  I'm missing my co workers and the office though.  I guess you don't know how much you like your job until you're away and the idea of going back is not completely horrible, lol.  I still have almost a week left though so I think spending some time with the before mentioned wife and chilling out and grilling out will be on the docket.

Quick Movie Review:

I love most Scorsese movies, and this one is no different.  The casting was good, the plot, though predictable in places was good and the atmosphere of the movie was believable.  I may not totally hate DiCaprio after this which is a big step forward.  I don't know if I'd buy this, but I'd probably watch it again on HBO.
**** out of *****

I started the blog as a sports/politics thing and now it seems to be more a sports-entertainment-bullshit about me-sports blog.  I think I need to get more political but I want to do it the right way.  Maybe next installment I'll have something work talking about in detail.

Game 7's are usually great....

but this one ought to be a classic.  It doesn't get better than Lakers and Celtics with something on the line.  I think the Lakers win probably by like....4 points.  Something like 91-87.

  • It now looks like the giant NCAA football shuffling is largely over because Texas has decided to stay put and collect the check.  I have to admit I was looking forward to chaos.  :(

  • Quick Movie Reviews

*** out of *****.  Decent suspense, good casting, some nice fight scenes at the end.  Not a purchase movie but one worth watching for a couple hours on TV.

It's hard to review a movie when the first thing you think of after its done is "what the fuck was that?"  To paraphrase a great man:   I would not buy it if it's free, I will not buy this piece of shit for me.

* 1/2 out of ***** based purely on the CGI.

  • Oil spill continues....in a related story so does my apathy towards it.

  • Went to a Pirates game the other night and was stuck by 3 things.

1)  It's the best park I've ever seen for a AAA team.
2)  Omar Vizquel still plays?!?!?!?
3)  They seriously need to limit how many times you can throw to first for the runner.  The White Sox pitcher in the 6th threw there seriously about 16 times in an inning.

Still overall enjoyable though.

  • I'll leave you with a headline that just appeared on Drudge:

BOX OF HEADS FOUND ON PLANE

It doesn't get better than that.

Quickie but goodie

I liked this alot

To be or not to be (a member of the Big 10)

New reports say that Notre Dame and the Big 10 are talking about more conference expansion.  If you add the rumors of Nebraska and Missouri as well, I have to say I'm getting a little more intrigued by the idea.  Last time we turned them down it was to keep our NBC money but if you expand the Big 10 Network further than it is with ND, Nebraska, and Missouri fan bases, the money ought to be comparable and we won't have to play fucking Tulsa anymore.

So then the question is let's say all 3 accept and no one from the Big East is added to make 16 (though if the Pac 10 steals the heart of the Big 12 and goes to 16 teams I think the Big 10 follows suit as well as the SEC), how do you make divisions which are competitive and fairly balanced and keep some rivals together?

OSU, UM, PSU, MINN, ILL, IN, IOWA, PURDUE, MSU. WISC, NW, ND, NEB, MIZZ

Obviously OSU, UM, and MSU have to be together so they can play every year.  Now you need to balance that with 3 other decent teams (we have to expect UM to return to UM form at some point).  We're going to choose PSU, NEB, and Wisconsin

Thus far:

OSU, UM, MSU

PSU, WISC, NEB,

IOWA, NORTHWESTERN, MIZZ, ND, IN, ILL, PURDUE, MINN are left.

Now every division needs a jobber.  A team that 9/10 years you'll skullfuck.  Hello Indiana and Northwestern

OSU, UM, MSU, INDIANA,

PSU, WISC, NEB,NORTHWESTERN,

MIZZ, ND, ILL, PURDUE, MINN, IOWA

Now the nice thing is the remaining teams are all solid midcard/lower midcard teams.  Any of these teams can go in either division but seeing how ND has played UM, MSU, and Purdue and Indiana and ND are all in Indiana...I think Purdue and ND in the top one is a no brainer.  Also, MIZZ needs to stay with NEB.

OSU, UM, MSU, INDIANA, ND, PURDUE, ILL

PSU, WISC, NEB,NORTHWESTERN, MIZZ, IOWA, MINNESOTA

Now one of the benefits of this setup is not only rivalries but geography.  The bottom line with the exception of PSU is on the same side of the map.  I know swapping PSU for ILL would make it better but then I think the top bracket is too loaded.

And there we have it.  A new Big 10.  As a note, if they do go to 16, I think the adds ought to be PITT and Rutgers or UCONN.  Just for the natural rivalry, PITT would have to go in PSU's division with the other east coast school going into OSU's.

Update on blown call

I hope that this guy.....

calls this guy safe too.....

When he comes to visit this guy....

......HOPEFULLY SOON!

The Good with the Bad

Good:
1)   New COD maps drop today!!!

2)   Lakers Celtics begin tonight.  I know it says 2008 over there, fuck it I'm not going to put that much effort into finding this year's banner but this is the one match up I'll actually actively watch.  I'm glad my prediction of Orlando-LA didn't work.  For the record, I'm thinking honestly Lakers in 6.

3)  This may be my new pool if the house checks out.

Bad:

First, that center field catch was made by a guy who SHOULD have been the Yankees center fielder for the next decade.  Now bad calls happen and the ump has apologized and he feels horrible but there is a simply solution for this.  First, Bud Selig needs to use his 'for the good of the game' powers and get off his ass and reverse the call which the ump admits he was wrong on, and give the kid the perfect game.

Second, they need to expand the replay in baseball and don't give me this bullshit of "it'll make the games last longer."  You let these fuckers step out of the box 5 times an at-bat and take forever doing everything else.  Your games last 3 1/2 hours to begin with, an extra couple minutes here or there (done during the commercial breaks, and all these games are on TV these days) could make this situation never happen again.

Short Movie Reviews

Sherlock Holmes was entertaining, some decent action, nice comedic moments, good acting, very good plot.  I don't know if I'll buy it, but I'd watch it again.  **** 1/2 out of 5.  I don't know what's keeping it from 5*s....maybe the fact I'm hesitant to buy.

Daybreakers is the best vampire movie I have seen since Blade.  Believable storyline, some good acting, great action, good amount of gore and such.  Sam Neill for me makes the movie as the evil vampire CEO.  With the contacts everyone wore (or CGI) his eyes just set it off.  This is a movie that I will probably buy some day and I'd recommend it to any horror or genre fan.  **** 3/4 out of 5.
