Busy Busy Week

So tonight we go looking for a house, the wife starts her next to last grad class, I start football coaching on Tues, have a booster meeting that night, coach on wed, High school football kickoff doubleheader on Thurs, then Fri or Sat get a haircut which should have been on Tuesday.   And we're expecting a baby in Feb so this is not going to slow down.

But never fear my loyal reader (cause God knows I only have one of you), everything you've come to expect is still right here.

1)    Movie Reviews

We caught 2 flicks Saturday Night.

This was enjoyable on several levels.  The plot was much deeper than you'd expect, a lot of good actors, a lot of violence, I very much enjoyed this, enough to order the sure-to-be-shitty sequel/prequel on netflix.  This one is a good one though so I'd give it **** out of *****.  Might not be a buy but it's a re-watch for sure.

I wasn't sure if I'd like this one but I have to say that it was a pretty good comedy.  Meryl Streep always surprises me when shes funny because I have this image of her as just a bitch.  Steve Martin plays more of a straight man than anything but he still comes off as enjoyable.  For me though, Baldwin is the star because his character and the way he plays him especially with attitude and body language was hilarious.  He may be a prick but when given the chance he's really funny.  I'd say we're looking at.... *** 1/2 out of *****.  Wouldn't buy it, and wouldn't search it out on HBO but if its on and I have nothing else to do, it'll suffice for 2 hours.

2)  NFL PREDICTIONS

NFC NORTH

I expect the division to literally go down to the last 2 weeks with the end of the Favre era not being storybook.

Green Bay Packers (11-5)
Aaron Rodgers has stepped out of the Favre shadow and with the talent around him now I think this is the year they put themselves into annual contention.  I look for big things from their Defense as well.

Minnesota Vikings (9-7)
Favre came back for a ring and his ego but they won't match what they did last time in being a juggernaut.  He'll have a nice year and probably throw for something like...24 TDs and 16 INTs and I think Peterson gets them 1200 yards but something just doesn't jive with them this time and a season sweep by the Packers will doom their playoff chances.

Detroit Lions (7-9)
Yes, Detroit will not be in the cellar this year.  They have a lot of talent, and a good young QB who has weapons.  Their defense is on the rise and they benefit from the team below them sinking quickly.  When Favre is gone, look for them to contend for 2nd in the division.

Chicago Bears (5-11)
Simply put I don't trust this team to tie its own shows.  They got Peppers on Defense now which will help but this marriage of Martz and Cutler is bad news.  Besides lets not forget their running game went to shit last year as well.  Could they turn it into the greatest show not on turf and light it up?  Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on them being anything but picking maybe 7th in the 1st round next draft.

Now is the time of year I love.  Fall means football and cooler weather but also moving (most likely), baby prepping (definitely) and an election (God help me).

Time is flying by

In 2 I'll be a home owner
In 3 months I'll be going crazy with another elections
In 6-7 I'll be a father

Best not to dwell too far on the stresses that accompany any of those and focus on the good.

Speaking of good....it's time for 5 good things.  I'm gonna try and be positive today.

1   Madden 11 is pretty fucking great thus far
2  It seems like things everywhere in my life are finally clicking into place
3  We have an excellent shot of taking Congress back...long as we don't fuck it up
4   I am not only excited for ND Football season I am optimistic about it.  Can't wait!
5   I have a pretty good life and I shouldn't take it for granted as much as I do.

Movie review...

I enjoyed this one.  It was smartass and violent and wasn't too sappy and ended with a great traditional comic book ending.  I will probably buy this if I can find it cheap, or I'll end up DVRing it off HBO.  In any case it's delivers what it promises.  **** out of *****

This weekend is going to be insane.  Tonight is meet the coaches for CCHS.  Tomorrow is the scrimmage at Buckeye Local.  Saturday is the Blue/Gold Bash down at the Spot.  Sunday is an all day affair with our crew at the lake.  Then Monday is the beginning of hell week #1 as we send out absentee applications.  I hope this weekend lasts as long as possible!

Playing Catchup

I've been slacking off alot with this blog so its time to get back in gear with another quick-quick thing I'm gonna call the top 5.

1 Hot Tub Time Machine-alot of fun.  **** out of *****, very good cast chemistry.  Would watch again on HBO.

2  Kagan approved for USSC-She's a lib replacing a lib.  She isn't replacing Scalia.  People need to chill.

3  NBA-Heat vs Celtics to open, vs lakers on christmas, and @ Cleveland in December.  I may get back into basketball after all.

4   Judge allows gay marriage-As I get older my fired up view of this diminishes.  If they want to get married I'm not sure it's a big deal as long as you protect religious buildings and such from being sued if they say no.  I don't feel two chicks being married affects my marital status at all.

5  Steelers-Ben may be back sooner because he's proving himself to Goodell.  Keep underestimating Pittsburgh, we like it that way.  Side note:  It's about fucking time Dick Lebeau got into the HOF.

Speaking of Steelers, let's see the AFC North

1  Baltimore-They have to falter big time before I don't pick them to finish 1st. (12-4)

2  Pittsburgh-Troy is back, Ben will be back, some good FA's signed on defense.  Question will be on Mendenhall and Wallace.  If they keep growing up, this could be a fun season.  (10-6)

3   Cincinnati-Add TO AND Pacman to the mix and you either have alot of talent to jesus christ call Dr Phil.  You're gonna see something happen and they'll still be good but I think they miss the WC.  (9-7)

4   Cleveland-A dumpster fire.  When a guy who threw 2000 INTs last year is your FA pickup and Colt McCoy won't sniff the field, it's gonna be a long season.  Room for improvement, but then again there's no place to go but up.  There's a reason they're always picking in the top 8.

Hope to get another update by the end of the weekend.  Until then hang tight people.
