Politics, Politics, Politics

So I was looking for a way to get a little more political on this blog and I think I found 3 openings.

Exhibit A

No, Joe, he's not a smartass, he just doesn't want to pay sky high taxes to subsidize your party's 90+ year old love affair with socialism and spreading the wealth.

Exhibit B

This mean looking son of a bitch wants to kill terrorists.  He wants his guys to be able to return fire without a note from teacher.  He wants "diplomats" who don't sabotage our war effort.  His mistake:  Being honest.  His punishment:  Not having to take orders anymore from a guy named Hussein...or is that a reward?

 Exhibit C

This guy is dead.

They want you, when you think of him, not to think of this:

They want you, when you think of him, to think of this:

On November 20th this year he'd have been 93 so I honestly think as his last effort to help America he decided to pass on today and not after the next birthday....afterall....do you have any idea how much 93 three of these on his cake would cost the national debt?

That felt good

A Big Big Week

First and foremost 6/19 made a half dozen years of marriage for the wife and me.  I don't know where I'd be without her but I think the next year is going to be the most exciting and busy time of my life.  I need to get better time management and patience skills all over the board but for the first time in a long time I'm quietly and cautiously optimistic about the future.

Second was the arrival of Brooklyn.

The daughter of my best friend brother from another mother, and a long time in coming.  I couldn't be happier for Nick and Darci.  They're truly a great couple and I know they're going to be fantastic parents.  Looks like we'll need a new headquarters for shenanigans after 9:30 pm  :D

Third is I'm on my next to last to last to last to last to last day of 2 weeks of vacation.  I'm missing my co workers and the office though.  I guess you don't know how much you like your job until you're away and the idea of going back is not completely horrible, lol.  I still have almost a week left though so I think spending some time with the before mentioned wife and chilling out and grilling out will be on the docket.

Quick Movie Review:

I love most Scorsese movies, and this one is no different.  The casting was good, the plot, though predictable in places was good and the atmosphere of the movie was believable.  I may not totally hate DiCaprio after this which is a big step forward.  I don't know if I'd buy this, but I'd probably watch it again on HBO.
**** out of *****

I started the blog as a sports/politics thing and now it seems to be more a sports-entertainment-bullshit about me-sports blog.  I think I need to get more political but I want to do it the right way.  Maybe next installment I'll have something work talking about in detail.

Game 7's are usually great....

but this one ought to be a classic.  It doesn't get better than Lakers and Celtics with something on the line.  I think the Lakers win probably by like....4 points.  Something like 91-87.

  • It now looks like the giant NCAA football shuffling is largely over because Texas has decided to stay put and collect the check.  I have to admit I was looking forward to chaos.  :(

  • Quick Movie Reviews

*** out of *****.  Decent suspense, good casting, some nice fight scenes at the end.  Not a purchase movie but one worth watching for a couple hours on TV.

It's hard to review a movie when the first thing you think of after its done is "what the fuck was that?"  To paraphrase a great man:   I would not buy it if it's free, I will not buy this piece of shit for me.

* 1/2 out of ***** based purely on the CGI.

  • Oil spill continues....in a related story so does my apathy towards it.

  • Went to a Pirates game the other night and was stuck by 3 things.

1)  It's the best park I've ever seen for a AAA team.
2)  Omar Vizquel still plays?!?!?!?
3)  They seriously need to limit how many times you can throw to first for the runner.  The White Sox pitcher in the 6th threw there seriously about 16 times in an inning.

Still overall enjoyable though.

  • I'll leave you with a headline that just appeared on Drudge:

BOX OF HEADS FOUND ON PLANE

It doesn't get better than that.

Quickie but goodie

I liked this alot

To be or not to be (a member of the Big 10)

New reports say that Notre Dame and the Big 10 are talking about more conference expansion.  If you add the rumors of Nebraska and Missouri as well, I have to say I'm getting a little more intrigued by the idea.  Last time we turned them down it was to keep our NBC money but if you expand the Big 10 Network further than it is with ND, Nebraska, and Missouri fan bases, the money ought to be comparable and we won't have to play fucking Tulsa anymore.

So then the question is let's say all 3 accept and no one from the Big East is added to make 16 (though if the Pac 10 steals the heart of the Big 12 and goes to 16 teams I think the Big 10 follows suit as well as the SEC), how do you make divisions which are competitive and fairly balanced and keep some rivals together?

OSU, UM, PSU, MINN, ILL, IN, IOWA, PURDUE, MSU. WISC, NW, ND, NEB, MIZZ

Obviously OSU, UM, and MSU have to be together so they can play every year.  Now you need to balance that with 3 other decent teams (we have to expect UM to return to UM form at some point).  We're going to choose PSU, NEB, and Wisconsin

Thus far:

OSU, UM, MSU

PSU, WISC, NEB,

IOWA, NORTHWESTERN, MIZZ, ND, IN, ILL, PURDUE, MINN are left.

Now every division needs a jobber.  A team that 9/10 years you'll skullfuck.  Hello Indiana and Northwestern

OSU, UM, MSU, INDIANA,

PSU, WISC, NEB,NORTHWESTERN,

MIZZ, ND, ILL, PURDUE, MINN, IOWA

Now the nice thing is the remaining teams are all solid midcard/lower midcard teams.  Any of these teams can go in either division but seeing how ND has played UM, MSU, and Purdue and Indiana and ND are all in Indiana...I think Purdue and ND in the top one is a no brainer.  Also, MIZZ needs to stay with NEB.

OSU, UM, MSU, INDIANA, ND, PURDUE, ILL

PSU, WISC, NEB,NORTHWESTERN, MIZZ, IOWA, MINNESOTA

Now one of the benefits of this setup is not only rivalries but geography.  The bottom line with the exception of PSU is on the same side of the map.  I know swapping PSU for ILL would make it better but then I think the top bracket is too loaded.

And there we have it.  A new Big 10.  As a note, if they do go to 16, I think the adds ought to be PITT and Rutgers or UCONN.  Just for the natural rivalry, PITT would have to go in PSU's division with the other east coast school going into OSU's.

Update on blown call

I hope that this guy.....

calls this guy safe too.....

When he comes to visit this guy....

......HOPEFULLY SOON!

The Good with the Bad

Good:
1)   New COD maps drop today!!!

2)   Lakers Celtics begin tonight.  I know it says 2008 over there, fuck it I'm not going to put that much effort into finding this year's banner but this is the one match up I'll actually actively watch.  I'm glad my prediction of Orlando-LA didn't work.  For the record, I'm thinking honestly Lakers in 6.

3)  This may be my new pool if the house checks out.

Bad:

First, that center field catch was made by a guy who SHOULD have been the Yankees center fielder for the next decade.  Now bad calls happen and the ump has apologized and he feels horrible but there is a simply solution for this.  First, Bud Selig needs to use his 'for the good of the game' powers and get off his ass and reverse the call which the ump admits he was wrong on, and give the kid the perfect game.

Second, they need to expand the replay in baseball and don't give me this bullshit of "it'll make the games last longer."  You let these fuckers step out of the box 5 times an at-bat and take forever doing everything else.  Your games last 3 1/2 hours to begin with, an extra couple minutes here or there (done during the commercial breaks, and all these games are on TV these days) could make this situation never happen again.

Short Movie Reviews

Sherlock Holmes was entertaining, some decent action, nice comedic moments, good acting, very good plot.  I don't know if I'll buy it, but I'd watch it again.  **** 1/2 out of 5.  I don't know what's keeping it from 5*s....maybe the fact I'm hesitant to buy.

Daybreakers is the best vampire movie I have seen since Blade.  Believable storyline, some good acting, great action, good amount of gore and such.  Sam Neill for me makes the movie as the evil vampire CEO.  With the contacts everyone wore (or CGI) his eyes just set it off.  This is a movie that I will probably buy some day and I'd recommend it to any horror or genre fan.  **** 3/4 out of 5.
